A couple of relatively uneventful days, except that I managed to spend $105 in cab fare over the three days:
- $28 from downtown Memphis to the bus terminal. The Memphis Greyhound terminal is located next to the Memphis airport, nowhere near anything, never mind downtown Memphis. I have never seen a bus station located so remotely from a city centre. I suspect there must be a reason; I cannot hazard a guess as to what it is. So, to sum up, a $42 web-fare for the return bus trip from Nashville to Memphis and $56 for the return cab trip from the Memphis Greyhound terminal to downtown.
- $14 from the Nashville Greyhound terminal to the Marriott Springhill Suites in Athens Way. Evidently, priceline.com has a very expansive definition of what constitutes downtown Nashville. I booked this hotel with them for one of their express discount rates; it was nowhere near downtown; in fact, it was nowhere near much of anything, save a MacDonald's and a Taco Bell. It's a perfectly nice hotel, but it makes me wonder who stays there. Also, the front desk seems to have some sort of deal going with an unlicensed cabby, which led to:
-$15 (including $2 tip. Don't know why I tipped her; that one's on me.) from the hotel to downtown, in said unlicensed cab. Nice, clean vehicle, polite female driver, but no meter and no apparent license. The same ride back from downtown in a regular cab was $11 plus a $2 tip.
-$35 from hotel to Nashville airport. Guess who the front desk called to drive me to the airport? Yup, same unlicensed cabby. Not sure if she over-charged me or not...
Random celebrity's family siting: RA Dickey's wife and many children were on my flight from nashville to Toronto.
